In Maharashtra, the snack widely known as Namakpare is traditionally called
Khare Shankarpali (or
Kharat Shankarpale). While the North Indian namakpare are usually cut into long, thin strips, the Marathi style typically features smaller, diamond-shaped, or rectangular bites that are heavily layered, crispy, and flavored with carom seeds (
ajwain /
ova) or cumin seeds (
jeera).
